Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a security supervisor to plan and coordinate security staff, supervise inmate custody, and oversee safety across a medium/maximum security facility. A minimum of a high school diploma with relevant experience is required; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience and certification by the SCDC Training Academy is required within

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 3 years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include 1 year of supervisory experience.
• A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
