Job summary

State of South Carolina is hiring to lead security operations in medium to maximum security facilities. You will plan and direct security staff, oversee inmate custody, and ensure safety across buildings and property.

The role includes routine unit checks, accurate inmate counts, and investigating complaints or disputes among inmates and staff. Certification and supervisory training are required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma with three years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; includes one year of supervisory experience.
• A related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff and inmate custody in medium/maximum security units.
• Oversee security for all buildings and public property and ensure safety and OSHA standards.
• Conduct routine unit inspections to verify duties, safety and cleanliness.
• Assist with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
