Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a security supervisor to lead the security staff assigned to a medium/maximum security facility, ensuring inmate custody and safety.

The role oversees security across buildings and public properties, performs regular checks for safety and compliance, and coordinates inmate counts and investigations with staff. This position requires prior corrections/security leadership and state agency experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher; a bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• Experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and directs security staff and oversees security, custody, and control of inmates in medium/maximum security facilities.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security at Community Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, all buildings, and public property.
• Performs routine checks to ensure duties are performed properly and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmates and correctional staff.
