Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant III (S) at Anson Correctional Institution to supervise female correctional staff in medium and close custody housing units.

Responsibilities include directing officers, scheduling, enforcing policies, and handling emergencies. The position requires a high school diploma (or GED) with relevant experience and CJ certification eligibility. Internal posting with weekend/holiday shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years as Correctional Officer III, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

• Assign lower level custody staff and oversee Correctional Officer activities and performance.
• Arrange work schedule rules to ensure staff coverage.
• Implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed per policy.
• Provide direction during drills, searches, and emergencies.
• Refer offenders to Restrictive Housing for temporary assignments as needed.
• Lead staff in carrying out tactical assignments as needed.
• Respond to emergencies, search for escaped offenders, and transport offenders.
• Conduct and supervise searches of offenders, living quarters, and work areas for contraband.
• Investigate and take action regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
• Prepare and review a variety of reports.
• Complete annual performance evaluations and assist in evaluating and implementing discipline.
• Conduct staff briefing sessions.
