Job summary

The State of North Carolina—Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant I (S) to supervise correctional officers at a minimum custody female facility. You will help plan schedules, assign posts, and oversee custody and welfare of offenders, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED with two years of correctional officer experience and be eligible for criminal justice certification.

Qualifications

• High School or GED and two years of experience as a correctional officer, or an equivalent combination.
• Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and Facility Operations.
• Must be eligible for certification by the NC CJ Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Ability to supervise correctional staff and manage post assignments.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officers and plan work schedules and posts.
• Instruct staff and complete performance evaluations.
• Disseminate and interpret department policies and procedures.
• Make frequent tours to ensure discipline and proper assignments.
• Supervise offender counts and maintain records.
• Supervise searches of offender quarters for contraband.
• Conduct investigations and develop prison operations and post orders.
• Rotate to various duty assignments as needed.
