Job summary

The State of North Carolina's Department of Adult Correction seeks a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II (S) at Anson Correctional Institution. This leadership role supervises Housing Unit Managers I and oversees daily operations, security, and staff development.

You will coordinate shift coverage, enforce policies, conduct performance evaluations, and respond to emergencies, drills, and incidents, ensuring safety and compliance within the facility.

Qualifications

• Documented experience with report writing.
• Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques, and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
• Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.

Responsibilities

• Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit.
• Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions.
• Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
• Managing a facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
• Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed.
• Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
• Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
• Responding to emergency situations such as, distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
• Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
• Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
• Preparing and reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
• Serving on a variety of institutional committees as needed.
