Job summary

State of North Carolina’s NC Department of Adult Correction seeks a Correctional Sergeant I for Western Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain. This full-time role supervises Correctional Officers, helps plan schedules, assigns posts, and oversees custody and welfare of offenders in a minimum custody facility.

Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or GED and two years’ experience as a correctional officer, or an equivalent combination.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED AND two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervising Correctional Officers, assisting with planning work schedules, assigning posts and responsibilities for officers in custody and welfare of offenders.
• Assisting and instructing Correctional Officers in duties and evaluations.
• Disseminating and interpreting Department policies to officers and offenders.
• Making frequent tours and inspections to ensure discipline and proper assignments.
• Supervising offender counts and maintenance of records for accountability.
• Supervising searches of offender quarters for contraband.
• Conducting investigations and developing prison operational and emergency plans and post orders.
• Rotating to various duties and performing other related tasks.
