Job summary

Description of Work

Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager and/or Correctional Lieutenant III at a multi-custody male correctional facility, the primary duties of the Correctional Sergeant III includes, but is not limited to, the following:

1. Providing first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III's in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing.
2. Assigning lower level custody staff to post(s).
3. Overseeing officer activities and performance, and ensuring that custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained.
4. Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
5. Performing other duties as needed.

Salary Range

Salary Range : $41,206 - $72,113

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.

About Central Prison

Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.

While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry, or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors, and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or other worship services.
