Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a first-line supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in assigned units of a medium/maximum facility. You will ensure proper building security and maintain public property safety.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma with related experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience, and a criminal justice degree may substitute for supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs security staff and inmate custody in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks to ensure staff are performing duties safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
