Job summary

Underdog is seeking a seasoned accounting leader to oversee all accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting under US GAAP, and act as a strategic partner to Finance Leadership and the Executive Team in budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning.

You will lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close, coordinate audits, manage payroll, oversee equity transactions, and drive systems improvements to scale with our growth.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity.
• Active CPA license.
• Experience in both public and private accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience scaling systems and processes in a dynamic environment.
• Experience in high-growth consumer tech, fintech, or gaming industries.
• IPO readiness / long-range planning experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes and deliver timely, accurate financial statements.
• Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors and regulators.
• Manage payroll and multi-state payroll tax compliance.
• Oversee accounting and reporting for equity transactions, including stock-based compensation.
• Lead federal, state, and local tax compliance, including returns and provisions.
• Partner with Compliance on regulatory filings and reporting to state and federal agencies.
• Deliver variance analysis and actionable commentary to executive leadership.
• Drive long- and short-term systems planning in support of company objectives.
• Develop the vision for the Accounting team and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Legal, HR and Operations on strategic initiatives.
