Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function. This individual will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and partner with senior leadership to support strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting expertise and experience managing a growing finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Cash Management.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
  • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Support ERP system enhancements, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
  • Mentor, develop, and manage accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience overseeing the month-end and year-end close process.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience within private equity-backed, high-growth, manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, real estate, nonprofit, or professional services environments.
  • Prior experience leading system implementations, process improvements, or finance transformation initiatives.
