Surge is a growing software and data company serving the wholesale lending space. We are building the team to support our next growth phase and seek a Controller to own accounting and be a true business partner.

Reporting to the CEO, this role drives monthly close, governance, and AI-enabled finance initiatives, ensuring robust financial reporting and strong internal controls. Fully remote team with a preference for Salt Lake City-area candidates.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Own the monthly close and financial reporting.
• Experience with audits, tax, and external partners.
• Comfort with AI-driven workflows in finance.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close with clean checklists.
• Manage AP, AR, GL, revenue, and payroll.
• Produce complete, accurate, timely financial statements.
• Own relationships with audit, tax, and accounting partners.
• Roll out financial controls and governance as the company scales.
• Maintain a comprehensive compliance calendar.
• Oversee reporting to management and Board; define KPIs and budget.
• Lead AI initiatives across finance and automate workflows.
