Job summary

Automatic Systems Co. seeks a Senior Control Systems Engineer to lead PLC/HMI programming for municipal water/wastewater SCADA projects. You will manage startups, commissioning, and customer coordination for large-scale deployments with travel in the Midwest. Strong PLC/HMI expertise and project leadership are essential.

The role combines field startup with office design work, with emphasis on secure, modern control systems for critical public utilities and industrial automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Automation Engineering or related field; 10+ years experience will be considered
• Minimum 10 years programming experience in industrial automation and control systems
• Experience with PLC programming and HMI platforms as listed
• Proven experience leading large-scale municipal water and wastewater SCADA projects
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation, motor control, process control, and system integration
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with field personnel, engineers, contractors, and municipal clients
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail
• Willingness to travel within assigned territory and valid driver's license

Responsibilities

• Develop and write PLC and HMI programs for municipal water and wastewater SCADA systems
• Lead FAT with validation of PLC/HMI programs and design simulations
• Perform startup and commissioning of control systems and related equipment
• Serve as technical lead on projects, guiding engineers and subcontractors
• Commission and troubleshoot communications networks and protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, OPC UA, MQTT)
• Support cybersecurity best practices including network segmentation and secure remote access
• Develop, review, and manage project documentation per standards
• Communicate effectively with customers through design, construction, startup, and support phases
• Provide advanced troubleshooting during system integration and post-installation
• Support proposal development and scope definition as required
