Job summary

Markel Group is seeking an experienced casualty claims expert to serve as the technical authority for high-complexity claims. The role involves managing complex litigation, assessing coverage, and coordinating with defense counsel and underwriting to control exposure.

The position emphasizes collaboration within a claims team, adherence to internal guidelines, and the ability to independently handle a substantial caseload with travel as required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years casualty claims or litigation experience.
• Experience coordinating with third-party administrators, MGAs, or MGUs is a plus.
• College degree required; professional designations preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sound understanding of casualty liability and excess liability coverage.
• Ability to analyze and present complex issues and develop action plans.
• Experience determining contractual obligations and coverage analyses.
• Experience managing complex litigation and setting reserves.
• Team player willing to assist within the Unit and Casualty Division.
• Willingness to travel 10–20%.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex primary and excess policy casualty claims.
• Analyze coverage and draft routine and complex coverage correspondence; communicate positions to stakeholders.
• Manage nationwide litigation; coordinate defense counsel and work toward economical resolutions.
• Communicate developments with underwriting and other partners.
• Support internal teams with claims vendor management, disbursement and collections issues.
• Participate in management initiatives and provide training as needed.
