Job summary

Berkley Southeast, a member company of W. R. Berkley Corporation, seeks an experienced commercial lines underwriter to evaluate risk, price, and manage a profitable book of business.

The role partners with agents to strengthen relationships and mentors junior underwriters. Occasional travel to agent locations and industry events are expected. The candidate should bring 5–10 years of underwriting experience across CGL, Property, BOP, Auto, and related lines, with CPCU or equivalent coursework

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5–10 years commercial lines underwriting experience including CGL, Property, Packages, BOP, Auto, Crime, IM, Umbrella and/or WC.
• Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
• Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lines products and regulatory differences among states.
• Demonstrated depth in negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work with multi-faceted systems.
• Ability to manage a complex workload with sound judgment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with agents and other departments; strong teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and maintain risk acceptability and profitability within underwriting guidelines.
• Partner with agents to manage a book of commercial business and agency relationships.
• Mentor and provide technical support to other underwriters; train staff as needed.
• Attend industry workshops/meetings; perform other duties as assigned.
• Develop agency partnerships; communicate with agents on underwriting issues and market changes.
