Job summary

Berkley Southeast, a Berkley Company, is seeking an experienced commercial lines underwriter for our Alabama footprint. You will evaluate risk, price policies, and manage a book of business in collaboration with agents and internal teams.

The role requires 5–10 years of underwriting experience, a four-year degree, and strong communication skills. Travel to agent locations may be required; CPCU or similar coursework is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–10 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
• CPCU designation or equivalent coursework preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Deep knowledge of commercial lines products and state regulatory differences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and maintain risk acceptability and profitability within underwriting guidelines.
• Partner with agents to manage commercial book of business.
• Price according to underwriting and pricing guidelines.
• Mentor and train other underwriters.
• Travel to assigned agent locations to develop partnerships.
• Train agency staff on products and underwriting philosophy.
• Attend industry workshops/meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
