Job summary

Syms Strategic Group is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) for 100% U.S.-based remote work, supporting VA applications. The role requires 8+ years in systems engineering, strong cloud, Linux/Windows skills, and on-call availability. You will manage large-scale production systems, implement automation, and ensure security compliance within VA standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud services (S3, Step Functions, Batch, CloudWatch).
• Proven track record of managing large-scale production systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows administration skills.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
• Knowledge of IaC tools like CloudFormation.
• Experience with monitoring tools including CloudWatch.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Security/compliance experience in production environments.
• DB experience with AWS RDS SQL Server and Oracle.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
• Detect, isolate, document, rapidly report, and resolve system outages or problems.
• Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with the customer in day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems.
• Communicate with users and senior management the status of key problems.
• Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Maintain inventory of system assets.
