Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) for a fully remote role focused on cloud-based production systems within VA initiatives. The candidate will manage large-scale systems, implement automation, and ensure security compliance.

The ideal applicant has 8+ years in systems engineering, strong AWS/Azure experience, scripting skills, and a background in production environments. A Public Trust clearance is required and U.S. citizenship is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud environments (S3, Step Functions, Batch, CloudWatch).
• Proven track record managing and maintaining large-scale production systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows administration skills.
• Scripting proficiency for automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
• Knowledge of IaC tools (CloudFormation).
• Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, DynaTrace, ScienceLogic).
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize production system performance and reliability.
• Understanding of network protocols, VPNs, firewalls, and security best practices.
• Experience with databases like AWS RDS SQL Server / Oracle RDMBS/RDS and backups.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level, day-to-day operational support for complex cloud-based systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Document problems and resolutions in logging and discrepancy tools.
• Work with customers on day-to-day activities and issue resolution.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware/software problems and escalate when needed.
• Communicate status of key issues to users and senior management.
• Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of IT systems and procedures.
• Maintain inventory of system assets and ensure VA compliance.
