Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to provide high-level operational support for complex cloud systems in a remote setting for the VA department. The role requires strong Linux/Unix and Windows expertise, scripting, and automation skills.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in systems engineering, with experience in AWS/Azure, CI/CD, and monitoring tools. This is a full-time remote U.S. position with a Public Trust clearance requirement.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of experience with SQL query and monitoring.
• Experience with AWS and Azure Cloud services.
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows OS.
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and Git.
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
• Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and IaC tools (CloudFormation).
• Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch).
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize production systems.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
• Detect, isolate, document, and resolve system outages during operations.
• Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with the customer in day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems.
• Communicate status of key problem statuses to users and management.
• Maintain inventory of system assets and perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Implement continuous improvement through IT systems or procedures.
• Ensure compliance with VA standards and security policies.
