Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to provide day-to-day operational support for complex cloud systems. The role emphasizes rapid problem detection, documentation, and resolution, with direct customer interaction and on-call availability.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in systems engineering, strong AWS/Azure expertise, Linux/Windows proficiency, and CI/CD experience. Remote-based US position with strong security and VA-compliance focus.

Qualifications

Experience with AWS/Azure Cloud services (S3, Step Functions, Batch, CloudWatch).
Proven track record managing large-scale production systems.
Strong Linux/Unix and Windows proficiency.
Experience with system administration tasks including user management, permissions, and system monitoring.
Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and configuration management.
Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and IaC tools such as CloudFormation.
Experience with monitoring tools like DynaTrace, ScienceLogic, and CloudWatch.
Understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and VPN setup.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines; Git and GitHub Actions, CodeBuild/CodeDeploy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork across cross-functional teams.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in high-pressure environments.
Detail-oriented to ensure system stability and data integrity.
Willingness to be on-call for production support.
Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with development, operations, and security teams.

Responsibilities

Perform day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
Follow standard practices in analyzing data and situations.
Detect, document, report, and resolve system outages and recovery activities.
Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
Work directly with customers in day-to-day activities.
Respond to user calls regarding hardware/software problems and escalate when required.
Communicate status of key problem statuses to users and senior management.
Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
Implement continuous improvement using IT systems or procedures.
Maintain inventory of system assets.
Ensure compliance with VA standards and security policies.
Provide documentation, training, and additional duties as assigned.
