Job summary

CVS Health is seeking an experienced Lead Cloud Engineer for the Observability Platform to design, build, and operate high‑throughput telemetry pipelines across multiple clouds. You’ll mentor engineers, drive OpenTelemetry adoption, and partner with SRE and Cloud teams to improve platform reliability.

You should bring deep distributed-systems knowledge, strong collaboration skills, and a track record of scaling production services in Go and Java.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years with observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management).
• 5+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed, high-volume data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize, etc.
• 3+ years with Grafana OSS or comparable observability backends.
• 3+ years of IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 3+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring with SLOs, health checks, and alerting.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
• Automate workflows and improve CI/CD with platform tooling.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secret management.
• Produce technical documentation and platform best practices.
• Gather requirements and influence roadmap with engineering leaders.
