Job summary

Markel is seeking a claims professional to manage a high- complexity caseload across environmental, products liability, life sciences and other areas. You will evaluate coverage, liability and damages, direct counsel and drive timely resolutions while communicating progress to stakeholders.

A JD or advanced degree is preferred and 4–6 years of experience is required. The role supports collaboration across underwriting, product development and risk management, and offers a hybrid work arrangement

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; JD or advanced degree preferred.
• 4–6 years of complex casualty claims handling experience.
• Strong knowledge of coverage analysis and policy interpretation.
• Experience handling litigated claims and working with outside counsel.
• Ability to evaluate liability, damages and exposure in high-severity matters.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of environmental, products liability, life sciences, toxic tort, professional liability and general liability claims of moderate to high complexity.
• Analyze policy language and coverage issues and provide coverage position recommendations.
• Evaluate liability, damages and exposure to set reserves.
• Direct and oversee defense and coverage counsel, consultants and experts.
• Develop claim handling strategies to drive timely outcomes.
• Participate in mediations, settlements and other ADR proceedings.
• Collaborate with underwriting and risk management on trends and issues.
