Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Senior Coding Specialist to lead advanced outpatient coding for complex encounters across cardiology, interventional radiology, infusion and observation services.

In this role you will mentor staff, perform quality reviews, educate on coding updates, and support onboarding of new coders while ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement and adherence to regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in Health Information Management or AHIMA/AAPC coding certification; high school diploma required.
• Licensure: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS; CIRCC required.
• Experience: 5+ years ICD-10-CM CPT/HCPCS Outpatient Facility coding; 2-4 years Interventional/Cardiovascular facility coding preferred.
• Preferred: coding audits, quality reviews or mentoring experience; large health systems experience preferred.
• Skills: knowledge of interventional radiology and cardiovascular procedures; medical terminology; EMR experience; strong written communication.
• Knowledge: ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines; laws on health information and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Review and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II codes, modifiers, revenue codes and APC classifications for complex outpatient encounters.
• Code interventional radiology and cardiology facility services accurately.
• Interpret coding guidelines, payer policies, CMS regulations for compliant coding.
• Apply NCCI, MUEs, OPPS and payer-specific requirements.
• Evaluate documentation to ensure services are supported and billed.
