Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Coder to join the Orthopedics Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. The 32-hour role offers a remote work option and weekday hours, with CPC, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P credentials encouraged.

The coder will assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 procedure codes, abstract data into the coding system, and participate in ongoing ICD-10-CM/PCS training. Strong organizational skills and knowledge of coding guidelines are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years related work experience in coding.
• Certification CPC, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P encouraged.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, pharmacology and ICD-10-CM/CPT-4 coding systems.
• Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Reviews the complete electronic and paper medical record of discharged patients and assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 procedure codes.
• Abstracts coded data into the coding abstracting system and notes attending physician, surgeon, dates of surgery, disposition, discharge date, etc.
• Sequences the assigned codes, prioritizes daily work for timely submission to billing.
• Participates in training programs for ICD-10-CM updates and Coding Clinic guidelines.
• Follows policies to identify and resolve documentation, abstracting and account problems.
• Contributes to department efficiency by suggesting education topics and process improvements.
