Job summary

Columbia University in the City of New York is seeking a Manager of Custodial Services on the Morningside Campus. The role reports to the Director for Custodial Services and leads a team to deliver reliable custodial operations, develop programs, and optimize labor utilization.

The position emphasizes program development, resource allocation, safety, and collaboration with Facilities Management to ensure high-quality, cost-effective services for a broad client base.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 7 years supervisory experience with 5 years in custodial/maintenance.
• Experience managing custodial services including workflow, resources, and inventory.
• Strong MS Office skills and excellent communication.

Responsibilities

• Develops priorities and directs Supervisors to realize departmental objectives.
• Directs Supervisors in managing workload across the unit to ensure timely, quality service.
• Determines how to allocate resources during peak demand.
• Collaborates with Directors and other managers to maximize supportive services.
• Establishes performance standards to meet client expectations and tracks customer satisfaction.
• Assesses performance and applies corrective actions as needed.
• Supports Supervisors with disciplinary actions when required.
• Evaluates equipment, supplies, and procedures for improvement.
• Ensures custodial activities comply with regulatory guidelines.
• Assists in developing fiscal strategy for department goals.
• Reviews impact of capital plans on custodial services and adjusts programs.
• Supports safety programs to maintain a safe workplace.
• Oversees inventories to ensure adequate stocking levels.
• Hires, trains, evaluates, and terminates staff as needed.
• Interprets bargaining agreement and resolves related issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
