Job summary

Columbia University is seeking a Supervisor to oversee custodial services and ensure high-quality, reliable campus operations. The role reports to the Director of Custodial Services and focuses on delivering efficient support to academic and administrative units.

The position requires leadership of a 20-person staff, a bachelor’s degree, and 3–5 years of related experience in facilities. Weekend or off-hour work may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
• 3–5 years of related experience including managing a unionized workforce.
• Knowledge of cleaning Commercial, Facilities and Buildings.
• Experience leading staff of at least 20.
• Strong computer literacy and MS Office skills; excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop priorities to realize departmental objectives; support programmatic and fiscal strategy.
• Administer performance standards; monitor productivity and customer satisfaction; maintain client communications.
• Coordinate development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, routines, and schedules.
• Collaborate with Facilities staff to maximize service provision and support safety programs.
• Direct supervision of staff; participate in hiring, training, evaluation, and termination as required.
• Interpret the collective bargaining agreement and resolve related issues.
• Evaluate equipment, supplies, and procedures; ensure activities comply with regulations.
