Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Building Mechanical Engineer to join our Northwest team, delivering HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs for water and wastewater projects. You will design central plants, water distribution, drainage, and energy analyses, and provide detailed drawings and field support.

A PE license or ability to obtain within a year, and 5+ years of experience are required. The role offers hybrid work arrangements and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • PE license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, organizational skills, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Design complete HVAC systems, including package units and central plants.
  • Design HVAC control systems with integration to SCADA and building management systems.
  • Design plumbing systems, including utility and potable distribution, drainage, and gas systems.
  • Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, duct/pipe sizing, life-cycle costs, and energy analyses (RESCHECK/COMCHECK).
  • Prepare calculations for plumbing systems (water and drainage) and pump sizing.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, basis of design reports and technical memoranda.
  • Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with architects, engineers and technicians.
  • Lead meetings with clients, vendors, and project stakeholders; manage quality and schedule.
  • Manage project budgets and support field staff during construction.
