Job summary

South Dakota Mines is seeking a maintenance worker to perform painting, minor plumbing, and general facilities upkeep in remodeling and renovation projects. You will handle wall repairs, door work, and surface preparations with attention to safety and quality.

The role requires lifting weights over 50 lbs, working in varied temperatures, and using ladders or scaffolds. Valid driver’s license is required and typical hours are full-time on-site in Rapid City.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform painting of walls, ceilings, doors and frames as part of remodeling projects.
  • Carry out basic plumbing tasks on drains and faucets as needed.
  • Install lighting, replace bulbs, and assemble shelves and fixtures.
  • Move furniture and repair floors, stair treads and base materials.

Job description

STARTING HOURLY RATE : Minimum of $18.45+ per hour, depending upon education and experience, GE

POSITION PURPOSE : Responsible for paint and wall repair in remodeling and renovation projects including painting walls, ceilings, metal doors and frames.. General maintenance duties include basic plumbing work on drains, faucets, etc. installing light bulbs and shelves; moving furniture, hanging pictures; repairing and replacing stair tread, handrails, doors, hardware and ceiling tiles; completing roof inspections and making minor repairs and maintenance; repairing damaged floor coverings (carpet, VCT , wood, ceramic tile and cove base), removing old floor coverings, preparing surface and installing new floor coverings; snow removal; preventative maintenance tasks; assisting in grounds, custodial, and shop departments; and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  • methods and practices of general building or facility maintenance;
  • building construction;
  • tools and equipment associated with the project.

Ability to:

  • communicate information clearly and concisely, exercising tact, patience, discretion and professional demeanor;
  • establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships, interacting in a supportive manner;
  • work independently, prioritize assigned work, establish timetables, and meet deadlines;
  • read and understand blueprints and drawings, and follow instructions;
  • lift and carry heavy items in excess of 50lbs, perform physical labor and work in all types of extreme temperatures or weather conditions;
  • work from ladders, scaffolding or in confined areas;
  • operate required tools and equipment;
  • direct the work of others;

COMMENTS : Valid driver’s license is required.
