Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Major Bridge Technical Director to lead the Bridges and Structures portfolio within HDR’s Transportation Business Group. This senior role combines deep technical mastery with strategic growth, staffing, and mentoring across major bridge projects.

You will champion technical leadership, coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure HDR standards are applied consistentl y throughout project delivery. This position may require travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and PE license or equivalent
• 10+ years bridge design and leadership experience
• Proven lead of a design team for a cable-stayed bridge ≥900 ft main span
• Experience with Design Build / P3 delivery methods
• Strong communication and mentoring abilities

Responsibilities

• Champion leadership in planning and directing large, multi-disciplinary bridge projects.
• Provide proactive technical oversight and cross-team coordination.
• Lead design and production efforts, engaging with design teams.
• Perform complex structural analysis for long-span bridges (cables, arches, steel, prestressed concrete).
• Build client relationships and support marketing and production initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers and oversee QA/QC of bridge plans.
