Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior BESS Engineer to lead design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage solutions. This role offers remote work with expert oversight across electrical, civil, and SCADA disciplines, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance.

The candidate will mentor junior engineers, review system sizing, and drive best practices in procurement, testing, and commissioning of BESS projects to meet client contracts and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 5+ years electrical eng. experience with BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expert knowledge of BESS configurations, batteries, inverters, BMS, and interconnection equipment.
• Familiarity with BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards.
• Experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC 841, IEEE 1547).
• Strong communication and leadership skills; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and technical direction.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS, ensuring contract and AHJ compliance.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses.
• Collaborate across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specs, drawings, and procurement support.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement and vendor reviews.
• Design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems with internal teams.
