Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Senior BESS Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage projects.

This role offers remote work with location discussions during interviews and requires broad technical leadership across electrical and multi-discipline teams. You will influence equipment selection, system modeling, commissioning, and safety compliance while supporting business development and client meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
5+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
Expert knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
Technical subject matter expert of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).
Extensive experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
Thorough knowledge of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).
Project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
Knowledge of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and resources.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and provide direction to project teams.
Lead and manage design and engineering of battery energy storage systems.
Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and sizing analyses for optimal configurations.
Coordinate with engineers across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV scopes.
Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for clarity and timely delivery.
Collaborate with fire protection engineers and local AHJs.
Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components.
Provide oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews.
Design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems with internal teams and contractors.
Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
Provide engineering support during construction and testing, including issue resolution and redesigns.
Mentor junior engineers and stay current with industry trends and standards.
Support business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.
Represent SOLV Engineering in customer meetings and team calls.
Travel as required to support project execution.
