Job summary

SunStrong Management is seeking a BESS Development Manager to originate and advance battery storage opportunities, coordinating interconnection, permitting, land, and commercial workstreams from screening to ready-to-build handoff. You will align with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, AHJs, and finance teams to ensure projects are financeable and buildable.

The role emphasizes governance of stage-gate criteria, dated assumptions, and the rationale for advancing or stopping projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in business, finance, engineering, renewable energy, or related field; MBA preferred.
• 5+ years in renewable energy development, with battery storage or solar-storage projects through interconnection, permitting, and commercial close.
• Knowledge of U.S. ISO/RTO interconnection processes and cost allocation.
• Understanding storage revenue structures and energy markets.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
• Experience negotiating land and commercial contracts, with tax implications.
• Experience with development at existing solar sites preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Pipeline Origination & Site Strategy: Screen opportunities, build and maintain a storage pipeline with stage-gate criteria, document decisions and reasons for advancing or stopping.
• Interconnection & Permitting: Own interconnection strategy, manage studies, track milestones, lead permitting and authorities engagement.
• Commercial Structuring & Oftake: Structure and negotiate revenue arrangements, land agreements, and contractual terms.
• Technology & Procurement Strategy: Define tech basis, run vendor selection, secure long-lead equipment reservations, influence site decisions.
• Financial Modeling & Investment Approval: Build pro formas, run sensitivity analyses, prepare investment memos and budgets.
• Handoff to Project Delivery: Prepare handoff package, brief delivery teams, and remain accountable for development-origin obligations.
