Job summary

Capital One seeks a Principal Associate to govern US Health & Welfare plans and ensure compliance with applicable laws and plan documents. You will coordinate with Benefits and HR Risk teams to manage regulatory filings, testing, vendor oversight, and notices while maintaining a proactive compliance calendar.

The role includes handling HIPAA, BAAs, audits, and doc writing, with opportunities to lead Gen AI reviews and continuous improvements across the H&W program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or military experience required.
• 3+ years of experience working with H&W employee benefit plan governance.
• MBA or Master’s Degree preferred.
• CEBS or CBP designation preferred.
• 4 years of experience in H&W employee benefits for organizations with 10,000+ employees.
• 5 years of experience with benefits governance practices.
• Strong business acumen, strategic thinker, and problem solver.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory and Compliance Filings: Prepare and submit state and federal filings for H&W plans (e.g., Form 5500, SAR).
• Nondiscrimination Testing: Oversee 125 and 105(h) testing; review results and communicate changes.
• Obtain and review SOC-1 documentation from vendors; ensure internal compliance.
• Maintain a compliance calendar; track and store filings.
• Governance & Oversight: act as liaison between Benefits and HR Risk; support audits.
• Audit Management: partner with HR Risk for internal audits and assist with external audits.
• Vendor Compliance: audit TPAs and carriers for plan terms, SLAs, and guarantees.
• Plan Documentation: write documentation and notices (SMMs, SBCs, SPDs).
• Eligibility Committee: participate as a voting member for benefit claims reviews.
• HIPAA compliance: lead BAAs and breach response protocols; coordinate with CapOne process.
• Gen AI reviews: act as SME for H&W benefits; coordinate vendor evaluations.
• Control testing: cooperate with control owners to keep documentation up to date.
