Job summary

General Motors is seeking a software engineering leader to modernize and scale its build systems for software-defined vehicles. This role drives the transition from a Make-based system to Bazel, improving speed, reliability, and robustness across the engineering organization.

You will lead, mentor, and architect scalable infrastructure for embedded software builds and CI/CD. The role emphasizes cross-team influence, real-time safety-critical systems experience, and hands-on execution to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of software development experience.
• Deep understanding of real-time software architecture.
• Experience shipping safety-critical automotive software.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one more engineering-tooling language.
• Experience with AI-enabled developer productivity tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead software engineering productivity initiatives and coach teams.
• Hands-on leadership to drive Bazel migration and modernize build/test workflows.
• Architect and implement reusable Bazel rules, toolchains, and platforms for embedded software.
• Define phased migration strategy and rollout model for Bazel across repos.
• Integrate Bazel with enterprise CI/CD and security workflows.
• Improve build parity, reproducibility, and cache effectiveness across pipelines.
• Enhance diagnosis, recovery time, and artifact provenance for releases.
