Job summary

General Motors is seeking a software engineering leader to modernize and scale build systems for software-defined vehicles. The role focuses on migrating from legacy Make workflows to Bazel, building scalable, secure infrastructure, and driving adoption across teams.

You will integrate with CI/CD, testing, and release processes while maintaining reproducibility and strong artifact provenance. We are looking for a leader with real-time embedded experience, hands-on skills in Python and tooling

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of software development experience.
• Deep understanding of software architecture for real time systems.
• Experience shipping high-quality safety-critical products.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in fast-paced environments.
• Strong expertise building and maintaining production software systems with Python and tooling languages.
• Automotive/embedded/safety-related environments experience.
• Experience migrating Make/shell-based workflows to Bazel.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of build and test systems by migrating to Bazel across repositories and toolchains.
• Design reusable Bazel rules, macros, toolchains, and configurations for embedded software.
• Integrate Bazel with enterprise CI/CD, testing, release, and infrastructure workflows.
• Define phased Bazel migration strategy and rollout model.
• Improve productivity with caching, parallelism, and hermetic toolchains.
