General Motors is seeking a software engineering leader to modernize and scale our build systems from legacy Make to Bazel across embedded software, ensuring faster, more reliable builds and reproducible workflows. You will drive the migration, define standards, and integrate Bazel with CI/CD, testing, and release processes, while mentoring teams and shaping platform strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of software development experience.
• Deep understanding of real-time software architecture.
• Experience shipping safety-critical products.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Expertise in Python and at least one additional engineering-tooling language.
• Experience with automotive/embedded safety environments.
• Experience migrating Make-based workflows to Bazel.

Responsibilities

• Lead migration from Make-based build systems to Bazel across repositories and toolchains.
• Design reusable Bazel rules, toolchains, and platforms for embedded software.
• Integrate Bazel with enterprise CI/CD, testing, and deployment workflows.
• Define phased Bazel migration strategy and rollout model.
• Improve build parity, reproducibility, and cache effectiveness.
• Mentor teams and drive developer productivity through automation.
