Job summary

General Motors is seeking a software engineering leader to modernize and scale the build systems for software-defined vehicles. You will guide a migration from Make to Bazel, shaping strategy and enabling faster, more reliable builds across teams.

You will coach engineers, design reusable Bazel rules, and integrate with enterprise CI/CD. The role requires 15+ years of software experience, real-time embedded systems knowledge, and a track record shipping safety-critical automotive software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of software development experience.
• Deep understanding of real-time software architecture.
• Experience shipping high quality safety critical products.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead software engineering productivity and effectiveness across teams.
• Mentor and coach engineers while balancing technical leadership with empathy.
• Modernize build and test systems by migrating from Make/shell workflows to Bazel.
• Define a phased Bazel migration strategy and rollout model across repositories.
• Design reusable Bazel rules, macros, toolchains, and platform configurations.
• Integrate Bazel with enterprise CI/CD, testing, release, and security workflows.
