Job summary

Speechify, a fully distributed company with no offices, is looking for a backend engineer to join the Platform team. You will design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API, serving millions of users across devices.

You will optimize services you inherit, automate repetitive work, and ensure correctness before shipping. You’ll collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead of the product

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TypeScript/Node.js.
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or similar.
• A habit of handing off work you used to own and documenting the outcome.
• Experience with AI agents automation and running unattended processes.
• Ability to verify results via logs, databases, and live requests rather than summaries.
• Strong judgment on what not to build and clear rationale for decisions.
• Prefers being corrected over being right.

Responsibilities

• Improve services you inherit to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable.
• Validate changes before shipping and maintain post-release checks.
• Automate repetitive parts of your role to focus on higher-impact work.
• Replicate successful work so the team can reuse it widely.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations built on Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web to keep backend architecture ahead.
