Job summary

Speechify is seeking a backend-focused engineer to own and evolve the platform behind payments, subscriptions, auth, and the public TTS API. You’ll design, build, and operate scalable services in TS/Node on cloud infrastructure (GCP with AWS/Azure familiarity).

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node (required).
• Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
• Habit of giving away work you used to own, and something to show for the room it created.
• Daily setup with AI agents—what runs unattended, what you review, and where you’ve decided it doesn’t act alone.
• Instinct to check results against system state—logs, DB state, and the actual request.
• Judgment on what not to build, with clear rationale for dropping it.
• Preference for being corrected over being right.
• Preferred: Docker and containerized deployments.
• Preferred: deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API.
• Take on services you didn't write and make them faster, cheaper, and harder to break.
• Establish correctness before shipping and leave checks for future reliability.
• Automate the repetitive parts of your role to focus on higher-leverage work.
• Turn one-off work into repeatable patterns for the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on top of us.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web to keep backend architecture ahead of the product roadmap.
