Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Software Engineer, Platform to join the College Park, MD area (remote). You will design and own backend APIs for payments, subscriptions, auth, and the TTS platform, helping scale a 50M-user product across web, iOS, Android, and extensions.

You’ll reduce costs, boost reliability, and automate core processes while collaborating with product and frontend teams. The role emphasizes ownership, thoughtful tradeoffs, and a culture of feedback.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node.
• GCP experience; working knowledge of AWS/Azure or other clouds.
• Willingness to delegate and share ownership of work.
• Daily workflow with AI agents described in detail.
• Check results against system logs and database state.
• Judgment about what not to build and why.
• Prefers being corrected over being right.
• Docker containerized deployments preferred.
• Kubernetes HA deployments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API.
• Improve services to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable.
• Ensure changes are correct before shipping and maintain post-release checks.
• Automate repetitive parts of the role to free up time.
• Turn ad-hoc work into repeatable patterns for the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead.
