Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join the Coinbase One team.

You will own backend systems powering membership lifecycle, including sign-up, payments, benefits, and promotions, driving subscriber growth and retention across millions of users. You will design APIs and distributed systems, partner with product, design, and payments teams, and set reliable patterns for the broader Coinbase platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience at scale.
• Experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems.
• Proficiency in Go or a similar language with demonstrated ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase.
• Proven ability to design and maintain APIs and distributed systems across web and mobile.
• Track record of delivering ambiguous projects from scoping to production with cross-functional partners.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and operation of backend services powering the Coinbase One membership lifecycle, including sign-up flows, subscription management, and recurring payment processing.
• Build scalable platform capabilities enabling targeted benefit delivery, promotions, and personalized membership experiences across the Coinbase retail app.
• Partner with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to scope, ship, and iterate on member features from concept through production.
• Drive backend architecture decisions for Coinbase One, establishing patterns for reliability, extensibility, and integration with Coinbase platform services.
• Improve service reliability, observability, and performance across Coinbase One's backend stack, proactively identifying and resolving production issues.
