Job summary

AngelList Nova Foundations is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and own critical banking and payments infrastructure for private markets. You’ll design ledger, payment integrations, KYC, and secure PII handling, delivering end-to-end reliability in a high-stakes environment.

The role emphasizes strong data modeling, service contracts, and auditability, with collaboration across Product and Compliance. Hybrid in-office in San Francisco, two days a week.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building backend or full-stack systems with money movement or financial apps.
• Senior-level impact; ownership of significant systems from ambiguity through launch.
• Experience with financial systems, payments, ledgers, or banking/KYC integrations.
• Strong data modelling skills in relational databases.
• Comfortable in Ruby on Rails or evidence you’ll ramp quickly; service-oriented architectures.
• Experience in a startup environment; rigorous yet fast shipping.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core Foundations systems, including ledger, bank and payment integrations for ACH and wires, KYC, and secure PII handling.
• Take difficult problems from design through rollout and on-call operation.
• Model complex financial and identity domains precisely in relational data, then build the service contracts and APIs that Product teams depend on.
• Build for correctness, auditability, security, and reliability.
• Improve the team's work through thoughtful code reviews and design feedback, and mentor other engineers.
• Work with Product teams and Compliance/Risk to keep the platform coherent across team boundaries.
