Job summary

Hims is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to design and implement scalable backend systems. You will lead architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to improve security, reliability, and performance. This role emphasizes observability, reviews, and driving technical investments.

You will partner with product to scope features, run experiments, and ensure robust integration with existing services while advancing the platform for patient and provider experiences.

Qualifications

• 5+ years shipping production code as a software engineer.
• 3+ years in back-end distributed systems design and delivery.
• 3+ years in microservice architectures.
• Proven experience building scalable web services in the cloud.
• Proficiency with hosting front ends and microservices on Kubernetes and AWS.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Experience with Agile, CI/CD, and testing (unit and integration).
• Relational DBs experience, PostgreSQL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of scalable backend solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers.
• Advocate for the team’s needs within the engineering org.
• Participate in product discovery, define features, validate ideas with prototypes.
• Collaborate with other teams to ensure integration and communication.
• Define and pursue improvements for security, scalability, reliability, and perf.
• Break down projects into actionable tasks and drive outcomes.
• Implement observability with logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Elevate engineering standards and improve workflows and tools.
• Analyze performance metrics and user feedback for optimization.
• Create architecture and development process documentation.
• Conduct code reviews and share knowledge within the team.
• Identify bottlenecks and propose performance improvements.
• Stay updated on industry trends and propose innovative solutions.
• Assist with interviews and onboarding of new engineers.
• Model a culture of open communication and continuous improvement.
