Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Software Engineer II to design and implement scalable backend systems within our Patient Health Data Platform. You will work on moderately complex services, drive testing standards, and contribute to architectural decisions in a collaborative squad.

Responsibilities include code reviews, documenting designs, and balancing technical debt with new features, while participating in product discovery and ensuring reliable observability across services.

Qualifications

• 2+ years shipping production code.
• Experience with back-end distributed systems.
• Familiarity with microservice architectures.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience building scalable web applications in the cloud.
• Experience deploying front ends and microservices on Kubernetes and AWS.
• Experience with agile development and CI/CD with automated tests.
• Experience with relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to take ownership with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement medium-complexity, scalable backend solutions.
• Write design documents guiding implementation and incorporate feedback.
• Write modular, reusable, testable code and maintain testing standards.
• Provide constructive feedback in code reviews and ensure coverage.
• Take ownership of technical debt and balance with feature work.
• Participate in product discovery and prototyping to validate ideas.
• Collaborate with other engineers for clean integration across services.
• Implement observability (logging/monitoring) and address issues.
• Break down projects into actionable tasks and drive delivery.
• Analyze performance metrics and user feedback for improvements.
• Create technical documentation and share knowledge with the squad.
• Contribute to hiring by assisting with technical screens.
