Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to lead the design and implementation of scalable backend systems powering our Patient Health Data Platform.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-performance services. The role emphasizes security, reliability, and observability, with opportunities to influence platform direction and participate in hiring and onboarding.

Qualifications

• 5+ years shipping production software.
• 3+ years backend distributed systems design & delivery.
• 3+ years microservices architectures experience.
• Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Proven experience building scalable web apps in cloud environments.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes and AWS deployments.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking.
• Experience with Agile development and CI/CD with tests.
• Relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across teams.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects without heavy supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture of scalable backend solutions that meet product requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on best practices and coding standards.
• Advocate for the team’s technical needs and priorities within the organization.
• Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility and define features.
• Work with other teams to ensure seamless integration across systems and services.
• Shape the technical vision and investments for security, scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Break down complex projects into actionable tasks and drive outcomes.
• Implement observability practices (logging, monitoring, alerting).
• Raise engineering standards by improving workflows and tooling.
• Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to drive improvements.
