Job summary

Axion is seeking a senior Backend Engineer to build and scale production data ingestion systems for the Axion platform. You will own architecture and impact across data onboarding from dozens of enterprise sources.

You will work with Engineering and Product leadership to define ingestion, mapping, validation, and preparation, using Python, Postgres, and Kubernetes. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of backend experience and a track record of shipping reliable, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Python expertise.
• Strong cloud architecture experience—distributed services in production with Kubernetes.
• Deep PostgreSQL experience including performance, migrations, and schema design.
• Proven data integration experience across heterogeneous sources and formats.
• Pragmatic, tools-not-platforms approach to the data ecosystem.
• Technical mentorship and ability to raise engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Own technical architecture for data ingestion pipelines, mapping, validation, and transformation.
• Build and harden backend services and cloud infrastructure (Python, Postgres, Kubernetes).
• Solve integration challenges across enterprise systems with inconsistent schemas.
• Establish data quality, lineage, monitoring, and alerting standards.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and customer teams to shape the data onboarding roadmap.
• Mentor engineers on data architecture and system design.
