Job summary

Axion seeks an experienced Backend Engineer to architect and scale production data ingestion systems within its AI-powered quality platform. You will own end-to-end data onboarding, map and validate diverse manufacturer data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive product impact.

You will build scalable backend services with Python, Postgres, and Kubernetes, while mentoring teammates and upholding data quality standards in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Python.
• Strong cloud architecture experience—designing, deploying, and operating distributed services with Kubernetes.
• Depth with Postgres and relational data modeling under production load.
• Proven ability to solve complex data integration problems across heterogeneous sources.
• Pragmatic, tools-not-platforms approach to the data ecosystem.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving team capabilities.
• Belief in a Data First philosophy in fast-moving environments.
• Capable of balancing MVP delivery with production-grade reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own technical architecture for data ingestion, including pipelines, mapping, validation, transformation, and orchestration to production-ready data.
• Build and harden backend services and cloud infrastructure (Python, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes) for fast, repeatable onboarding.
• Solve integration challenges from source systems with inconsistent schemas and unreliable delivery.
• Establish data quality and reliability standards with validation, lineage, monitoring, and alerting.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams to shape the data onboarding roadmap.
• Raise engineering standards through code review, docs, and technical direction.
• Mentor engineers on data architecture and system design.
