Reddit is seeking a Product Backend Engineer within the Reddit Consumer Engineering organization. You will partner with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and Frontend Engineers to build, experiment with, and scale features that power hundreds of millions of users.

The role emphasizes owning the full software lifecycle for major product initiatives, designing scalable APIs, optimizing performance, and applying data-driven decisions through experiments.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on backend development in large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building and operating high-concurrency backend services.
• Ability to own full software lifecycle from design to deployment and observability.

Responsibilities

• Cross-functional product architecture: collaborate with PMs, design, data science, and client engineers to translate needs into scalable solutions.
• End-to-End delivery: own the full software lifecycle for major product initiatives from design to rollout and observability.
• Metrics & experimentation: design and evaluate A/B experiments and use data to drive decisions.
• API & system performance: build and maintain scalable GraphQL/REST/gRPC APIs and backend services.
• Technical rigor & modern tooling: establish best practices, improve developer workflows, mentor teammates, and leverage AI-assisted tools.
