Job summary

Samsara, the Connected Operations Cloud leader, is seeking a senior software engineer to help design and ship AI-powered, edge-connected backend systems for driver-focused experiences. You’ll work on orchestration across real-time, edge, and AI components from day one.

Ideal candidates have extensive backend experience, a track record with AI agents or LLMs, and the ability to mentor others in a fast-moving, remote-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of products from concept to production.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong programming fundamentals in Golang, Python, or similar languages.
• Experience building products on top of LLMs or AI agent platforms.
• Experience designing reliable, distributed backend systems that support multi-step, asynchronous workflows.
• Experience designing backend systems for edge/embedded/resource-constrained clients.
• Experience with quality and safety considerations for AI-driven systems: validating outputs, retries and monitoring.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Define what to build and how to build it, shaping product direction from the engineering side.
• Own the technical direction for orchestrating concurrent, real-time interactions to deliver a coherent driver experience.
• Build and ship new AI-powered products from zero to one in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
• Design systems that coordinate across backend and edge boundaries for reliability and real-time responsiveness.
• Make architectural tradeoffs to generalize beyond narrowly-scoped solutions.
• Establish patterns for reliability, observability, and explainability in real-time decision systems.
• Serve as the team's technical anchor: review designs, unblock decisions, mentor firmware engineers.
• Bring in outside ideas for full-stack and AI-assisted development.
