Job summary

Samsara is hiring a senior software engineer in the United States to own technically complex, production-grade systems. You will shape the backend, frontend, and AI-driven product features, partnering with product and design to turn real-world problems into scalable solutions.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years of software experience, strong full-stack skills, and a track record in leading cross-functional projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile).
Proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar.
Experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout, including managing ambiguity, driving alignment, and delivering measurable impact.
Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products. You don't need to train models, but you know how to turn AI capabilities into products customers love.
Strong communication skills and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
A track record of building zero-to-one products, systems you left in a meaningfully better place, or hard problems you refused to let stay unsolved.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas.
Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI.
Design and ship full-stack features end to end across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile.
Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes.
Build and scale the systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and the workflows that put intelligence into the hands of operators.
Raise the bar for the engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and by setting a standard for quality, velocity, and craft.
Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally and across new offices.
